The History of Zulu beadwork

Traditional Zulu beadwork is used to embellish the traditional costumes of the Zulu tribes. The Amangwe tribe, live in the Central Drakensberg Mountains, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. In traditional beadwork, the colours, patterns and styles of beadwork indicate where the wearer comes from, marital and social status and age. There are often messages in the colours, shapes and juxtaposition of the beads, which are known to the intimate friend of the beader.
